The speech could give Romney the opportunity to emphasize his financial bona fides and rally the party’s fiscal conservatives as he attempts to win over supporters of former Sen. Rick Santorum. At a town hall meeting in a Detroit suburb on Tuesday, Romney said in his upcoming speech would discuss his plans to balance the budget as well as addressing “our entitlements and obligations.” “I’m going to get more specific about some of the things we need to do to protect Medicare and Social Security for coming generations,” he said. “We have to finally bring these things together in a way, to communicate to the American people that we know what it takes to get Washington to work, so that America can work, so that Michigan can work.” The Friday speech, to the Detroit Economic Club, was moved from a smaller venue to Ford Field to accommodate a larger audience.
